Important: SPS Legal Services is a process-serving and legal-support company. We are not a law firm. Nothing on this site is legal advice and nothing we produce in the course of our work substitutes for advice from a licensed Ohio attorney.
We are not a law firm
Our staff includes professional process servers, dispatch coordinators, and notaries. We are not attorneys and we do not practice law.
We carry the documents you give us, attempt service under the applicable rule, notarize the resulting affidavit, and return it to you for filing. We do not choose which papers to serve, draft pleadings, or decide what theory of service to use. Those are the attorney's decisions.
This is not legal advice
The information on this site is for general operational reference. It includes:
- Descriptions of the services we offer and our pricing
- General references to Ohio Civil Rule 4.1 and related rules
- FAQs about how process serving works in our coverage area
- Sample affidavit visuals for illustration
None of it is legal advice for any specific matter. If a question affects a case, consult counsel. If a question affects strategy, consult counsel. If you are unsure whether it affects either, consult counsel.
If you need legal advice, please call an attorney. If you don't have one, the Ohio State Bar Association maintains a lawyer referral service.
Reference materials
Pages like our Civ. R. 4.1 cheat sheet and the FAQ are written as plain-English operational references for litigation paralegals and similar roles. They are not the rule and they are not a substitute for reading the rule.
The official source for the Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure is the Ohio Supreme Court. We update our references when the rules change but the official version controls.
Accuracy of statutes and rules
We try to keep statutory references current and accurate. Rules change. Numbering changes. Our pages may lag those changes by a short period.
Before relying on a citation that appears on our site, verify it against the official source. We do not warrant the accuracy of any statutory reference for any particular case.
Jurisdiction
Our service of process work is performed under Ohio law in the counties we cover. References to federal rules appear in the context of cases pending in the Northern District of Ohio. We do not provide service of process advice for other jurisdictions.
Out-of-state matters that require service in Ohio are welcome through standard intake. Out-of-state service requests are coordinated with vetted servers in those jurisdictions.
Questions about this disclaimer
Email info@spslegalservices.com and we'll talk it through.
This page is itself not legal advice. It is a plain-English description of what we do and what we do not do, written so visitors understand the boundary before relying on anything they read on the site.
