Careers

Careers at SPS Legal Services.

Process serving is operational work that runs on documentation, route knowledge, and the kind of calm professionalism that holds up at a courthouse counter.

Current openings

We are not currently hiring.

Our team is fully staffed for the current route. We do not have openings to post right now. When we do hire, it is usually for the roles below, and we start with resumes that are already on file.

If process-serving work fits what you do, send a resume and a short note about where you would want to work. We will keep it on file and reach out when something opens in that area.

The work

What we hire for, when we hire.

Three role families, all variations on the same theme: getting court papers into the right hands and returning a clean record of how it happened.

Process servers

On-the-road work covering an assigned county cluster. You serve papers, document attempts with GPS-stamped photos, return notarized affidavits. Reliable vehicle, clean driving record, and a calm demeanor in difficult situations are non-negotiable.

Dispatch and intake

Office-based coordination work. You handle order intake, route assignments to servers, and the email and phone follow-up that keeps firms in the loop. Comfort with court terminology and a working knowledge of Ohio Civ. R. 4.1 are a plus.

Notary and document support

Notarization of returns, formatting affidavits to the courthouse standard, and document filing at county clerk offices. Active Ohio notary commission required for the notary side of the role.

What we look for

The traits we ask about first.

Skills can be taught. Most of these cannot. A resume that signals a few of them gets a reply when the time comes.

  • Professional bearing. Process serving sometimes goes wrong; the person who shows up makes the difference.
  • Documentation discipline. Photo logs, attempt notes, and affidavits are the work product, not the side effect.
  • Working knowledge of the Ohio Civil Rules, or willingness to learn them.
  • A clean background record. Every team member is background-checked and court-recognized.
  • Local knowledge of the counties on your assigned route.

Background-checked and bonded.

Every member of the team is background-checked, court-recognized, and covered under our surety bond. We need that for the work to be defensible at the clerk's desk and at the bench. It is part of the conversation on the first call, not a surprise at offer time.

How to be considered

Send a resume now, not when you see the posting.

The hiring cycle is short. When a role opens we usually fill it within two weeks, starting with resumes already on file. Email careers@spslegalservices.com with:

  • Your resume as a PDF.
  • The county or county cluster where you would want to work.
  • Which of the three role families above fits you.
  • A line or two about what you are good at and what you would rather not do.

We acknowledge every submission. We do not always have a position open to discuss, but the file stays current for one year.
